“Think of others also, when you think about yourself”

- Shri U N Mehta, Founder – Torrent Group

Content1

UNM Foundation was established by the Mehta family of the Torrent group to carry forward the founder's vision and values. The Foundation works with a strong commitment to create meaningful change across the sectors of art & culture, healthcare, education and enhancement of employability, regeneration of the environment and urban renewal.

Torrent's governance philosophy emphasizes well-being of people and society. Shri U. N. Mehta, a medical representative with remarkable foresight, laid the foundation of Torrent in 1959 by leveraging niche marketing as a strategic strength. What began as a personal journey rooted in the simple but powerful philosophy of 'happiness for all', evolved into a dynamic enterprise shaping lives across healthcare and energy - two of the most vital sectors of modern living.

From pioneering pharmaceutical research and life-saving treatments to driving customer centricity and operational excellence in power generation, power distribution, green hydrogen, and city gas distribution, the Group continues to lead the charge toward a sustainable and inclusive future.

Under the leadership of Mr. Sudhir Mehta and Mr. Samir Mehta, Torrent progresses ahead with a clear focus on governance, community well-being, and innovation.

On the birth centenary of Shri U. N. Mehta in 2024, the Mehta Family pledged Rs. 5,000 crore to the Foundation over five years - reaffirming their deep commitment to social good and transformative impact

Education

In a span of 8 years, through the Sikshasetu programme, we have reached 26+ primary schools in Gujarat, 400+ teachers and more than 15000 students and 3500+ parents from economically disadvantaged sections of the rural communities and urban slums. Through the Shardashish Scholarship Programme, we provide global educational opportunities to bright and committed students, who are economically challenged.

Health Care

Under the Reach Initiative we have conducted health screening camps in more than 1600 villages and screened more than 1.5 lakh children in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Union Territories like Diu, Daman & Dadra Nagar Haveli. About 70,000 children were brought to their normal state from malnourishment and Anemic conditions identified during screening camps. This is achieved by providing “Mauji” biscuits to malnourished children and Iron supplements to Anemic Children completely free of cost.

Health and Hygiene programme is being carried out in more than 1200 villages, by providing sanitary pads to more than 72000 adolescent girls in the age group of 11 to 18 years. We have started the initiative by providing conventional disposable sanitary napkins on monthly basis and later switched over by providing reusable biodegradable napkins once for each beneficiary.

Since 2017, we run 3 UNM children PHC in Dahej, Balasinor and Indrad. In 2022 onwards more PHCs are started in remote areas of Gujarat. As on date, 11 PHCs and a paediatric hospital are functional to provide free of cost medical services to underprivileged populace. More than 6.2 lakh OPD conducted through 11centers / hospital as above.

Through 3 editions of Abhivyakti – The City Arts Project, we have curated 50+ upcoming artists and provided them a platform to showcase their creativity and reached out to an audience of more than 50,0000 people who have enjoyed various art forms absolutely free. Under the Phase 1 of our unique initiative “Pratiti”, we have developed and are currently maintaining 7 beautifully landscaped gardens in the city of Ahmedabad. Work on more gardens already underway in the Phase 2.
